To save time and help with your day’s itinerary, we’ve selected some of the best places to head for lunch while out in Worthing.
This isn’t a comprehensive list, but it will hopefully give you some ideas to help start you off.
Tides
This bright and airy family-run restaurant is found in Goring, a town right next door to Worthing along the coast. It offers professional and high-quality yet friendly and welcoming eating to both local and visiting diners, with dishes using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. They proudly boast to using only British meat and fish in their dishes.
The menus offer a wide variety of dishes, mostly British and European, with favourites such as fish and chips, full English breakfasts, steak and pies, and various seafood dishes as well.
The restaurant opens throughout the day, offering a breakfast menu during the morning, lunches during the day, and evening dishes later. The puddings are all homemade as well, featuring favourites such as trifle, apple crumbles, and fruit pies. Gluten free and vegetarian options are also offered.
Toby’s Carvery
Sometimes people would rather go somewhere that’s already a known quantity than risk going somewhere unknown and finding they don’t enjoy it. To this end, you may be pleased to hear that there’s a Toby’s Carvery in town. Offering a wide selection of British and continental classics, Toby’s Carvery is a good, dependable choice that’s hard to go wrong by.
The restaurant is found in West Worthing, a little way down the coast and in the town proper, so it makes for an ideal location to stop for a meal if you’re headed in that direction. It opens from morning until late evening, and includes a breakfast menu if you get there early enough. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are also offered.
Pizzaface
One of the world’s most universally popular dishes, it’s extremely hard to get pizza wrong. As such, Pizzaface has found its way onto our list. Not least of all because the name is amusing.
As one would expect, Pizzaface specialises in offering pizzas to its hungry diners, whether they wish to eat in or take away. It also includes other Italian dishes on its menu, as well as Italian-style gelato for pudding. All food is made to order and using specially selected, fresh ingredients. The pizza sizes tend towards the generous, and include a variety of toppings. Be sure to accompany your pizza with a recommended wine as well.
The restaurant is bright and well lit. Plenty of room can be found in between the tables, so movement between them is easy.
Jonny’s
Found on Warwick Street in the heart of Worthing, Jonny’s is an independently run café owned by Jonny, hence the name. The café features a menu offering a wide variety of menus, from grilled halloumi to burgers to ribs to chilli, as well as hot and cold drinks. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food excellently prepared and moreish, and the café allows for both inside and outdoor dining depending on the weather.
The restaurant is still fairly new to Worthing, and as such remains one of the town’s hidden culinary secrets. Word of mouth is spreading fast, however, so be sure to get a table at Jonny’s while you can.
The Rose and Crown
We finish off our guide with a traditional pub lunch. The Rose and Crown is found on Montague Street, and is furnished in the timeless fashion of pubs across the country. Its atmosphere is warm and inviting, with plenty of lighting and space for movement. The bar is fully stocked, offering all popular brands of beer, ale, whisky and wine, as well as local favourites.
The fare offered at the Rose and Crown is classic pub dishes, all using locally sourced ingredients. It’s all home-cooked, and the staff are friendly and happy to assist visitors if needed. On certain days and evenings, live music is also played within the pub. If you’re musically inclined then this is an added bonus, but keep it in mind if you were hoping for something a little quieter.
