Do I need to be self-employed before I start my first job with a customer?

Posted on October 21, 2019

No, you do not need to be registered as self-employed before you start your first job with a customer.

However you will need to register as self-employed by 5 October in the (tax) year after you first start working as a self-employed carer. We strongly recommend you do this straight away to avoid missing the deadline and incurring penalties. Registration is free to do and relatively straightforward.
